Limited PCI compliance
As the payment processing software resides on the payment terminal no processing of the card data occurs on the POS system. Compliance issues are basically the same as for stand alone terminal operation. PCI audits can be an expensive and time consuming operation in a fully integrated environment, and does not guarantee the card data will not be breeched.
Secure card data
The card data is held securely on a PCI-DSS compliant terminal and is never sent to the POS system. This ensures that the possibility of a data breech is virtually eliminated. Both EMV chip cards as well as manually swiped cards can be processed on the payment terminal while shielding the POS system from the raw card data. This card data is encrypted in the payment terminal and then securely transmitted to the payment processors host for authorization. Only the authorization code and the masked card number are sent back to the POS system.
